GLOBIS University Welcomes 83 Aspiring Business Leaders at the 2020 English MBA Entrance Ceremony

CATEGORIES:GLOBIS UNIVERSITY

Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo–GLOBIS University held its annual entrance ceremony for the 2020 English MBA Program on September 20. For the first time, a hybrid online/on-campus format was used to welcome the 83 new students from 24 countries.

GLOBIS University President Yoshito Hori welcomed the aspiring business leaders in a special address. Based on the educational principles of GLOBIS–building skills, fostering a network, and cultivating a personal mission–he encouraged them to take risks with the goal of becoming visionary leaders who create and innovate global societies.

Three student representatives addressed their fellow incoming classmates.

Mr. Micheal McKay, a Canadian student of the Part-time & Online MBA Program, shared a humorous poem both lamenting the struggles of the 2020 business landscape and encouraging his classmates to seize the opportunities ahead.

Mr. Panneerselvam Darmalingam, an Indian student of the Part-time & Online MBA Program, expressed gratitude for being able to learn about different cultures, countries, and beliefs from his fellow students, urging everybody to “keep moving.”

Ms. Carla Manantan, a Filipina representing the Full-time MBA Program, spoke about how disruptions of 2020 are creating opportunities for us to reevaluate our priorities, assess what is truly important to us, and pursue the best versions of ourselves.

This new class comprises students from 24 countries: Australia (1), Canada (4), China (4), Germany (1), Hong Kong (2), India (5), Indonesia (2), Japan (34), Republic of Korea (1), Malaysia (1), Mexico (1), Mozambique (1), Nepal (1), Panama (1), Philippines (9), Romania (1), South Africa (1), Spain (1), Switzerland (1), Thailand (3), Turkey (3), the United Kingdom (1), the United States of America (2), and Vietnam (3).

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, GLOBIS University has taken steps to ensure the safety of students and faculty members. On March 2, all classes were moved online–a relatively seamless transition, thanks to years of experience with online teaching.

GLOBIS has involved students in the decision-making process concerning COVID-19 measures, mainly through online meetings with student representatives to assess needs. One-on-one consultation sessions and special lectures were also arranged with faculty to ensure no lost learning opportunities. For students suffering financially from the impact of COVID-19, GLOBIS set up a special student loan.
